Is Glossier 'You' Vegan? 2023

If you're a beauty enthusiast with a penchant for ethical and vegan products, you might have found yourself asking the question: Is Glossier's fragrance vegan? Well, you're not alone. Let's dive into the details...

Glossier, a brand known for its minimalist yet effective beauty offerings, has gained a dedicated following over the years. I didn't really buy into their products for a while because I wasn't 100% sure if they were cruelty free. Alas, I'm happy to say that quite a few of their products are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, aligning with the principles of conscious consumers. However, when it comes to their fragrance, things might not be as straightforward as you'd expect.

Their signature scent, Glossier You, is a beautiful, musky scent that's supposed to be super personal (they describe it as 'skin-smell enhancer'. The scent historically was not officially advertised as vegan. The brand would state that the fragrance does not contain any ingredients sourced from animals. This meant that the core components of the fragrance are plant-based or synthetic.

However, the plot thickened as Glossier mentioned that the fragrance may contain bug saliva due to the bark used in the formula (a somewhat surprising revelation?). While bug-derived ingredients may not necessarily have been considered non-vegan in all cases, it posed a dilemma for those who adhere to strict vegan principles.

The great news is that now Glossier are officially advertising the scent as vegan, which means whatever bug saliva they once had in it... is gone!

I'm happy that Glossier's fragrance is devoid of animal ingredients AND bugs now and I will keep purchasing the scent. I appreciate the transparency from Glossier throughout this, as it means us conscious consumers can make informed choices.
